Adonis never saw it coming; she never would have thought to suspect it. Some might have blamed her oversight on overconfidence, but that wasn’t it, exactly. Adonis simply believed she could handle the situation. It wasn’t a baseless assumption–indeed, she’d demonstrated once that she could indeed take care of things. Besides, much more intelligent foes–foes with more weapons in their arsenals– had come up against her, and been defeated. It wasn’t that she didn’t respect the droid, it was just that she felt she could handle it. Unfortunately, the hunter-killer proved far more maneuverable and quick than she had anticipated. Adonis had intended only a quick shot, to keep the droid honest, but things had turned badly at once. It wasn’t a hard shot, of course; the droid was close, and angling to attack. The problem was her blaster: the hold-out simply didn’t pack enough punch to deal any damage to the droid or even (this was the real failing) cause it to move defensively: when her shot bounced so harmlessly away, the droid was free to move in close. It moved with frightening speed, so quickly that Adonis barely had time to realize she should be afraid. Then it was upon her, its foils lashing out as though trying to avenge their fallen comrads. Finally realizing the danger, Adonis tried to get out of the way, but it was far too late; the foils ripped into her exposed midriff, nearly gutting her. As it was, they left nasty, bloody trails through her skin. She had nearly died, and she was not yet safe. Irrationally, her first thought was that the blow would ruin her appearance. Only when she instinctively reached down and felt her hands covered wit warm liquid did she realize things were much too severe to be worrying much about appearances. She staggered slightly, then fell back without a sound. Sithspit, she thought as she fell. You’ve certainly made a mess of things this time, gi– Blackness tugged at her before she completed the thought, though: blackness brought on by a severe and sudden loss of blood. Then consciousness returned, and with it the first real pain. Adonis groaned, clutched her stomach, but that only increased the pain, which was not trifling. She gritted her teeth. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been unconscious, but Gessepe was still fleeing, and her wound not yet seen to, so clearly it had been a fairly brief time–which was a blessing, for she was losing a lot of blood. Hoping to see to that, Adonis moved towards where she knew the first-aid kit was, and hoped she would be able to use her mean skill to patch herself up: where ever the hunter-killer was, she would need to deal with it, probably. But she couldn’t do that until she wasn’t in constant danger of passing out; she would be no help to Gessepe if she again lost consciousness. ------------------------------
The Lord of the Rings Quote for the Moment:
((If Adonis fails her rolls, then you can ignore the second part there. If not, I doubt she has a chance for a first-aid roll on herself yet, but just in case, I’ll send one to you.))
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
